An opportunity to explore Scotland’s magnificent northwest coast, from Oban to Cape Wrath and visit a varied selection of out-lying smaller islands. Handa Island and its massive seabird colonies will be a specific location we’ll aim to visit

Destination: Hjalmar Bjorge will depart Oban around 4pm on Saturday 29 June.  Our first overnight anchorage will be at Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The itinerary for the remaining cruise is not fixed, our intended passage will take us north to Cape Wrath and on our return south, take us between Skye and the mainland. We’ll be aiming at landings and overnight anchorages at the following locations; Plockton, Crowlin Islands, Gairloch, Loch Torridon, Summer Isles (Tanera Mor, Priest Island),  Eddrachillis Bay, Loch Nedd, Kylesku (Eas a’ Chual Aluin-Britiain’s highest waterfall), Loch Laxford, Handa Island (Scottish Wildlife Trust) and Kinlochbervie (Sandwood Bay). The route south will see us return on the west side of the Inner Sound with further possible visits to Rona, Raasay and possibly Skye. As usual with all our cruise we’ll aim to get guests ashore each day for a walk, however this is not mandatory and if you want to remain aboard you’re welcome to do so!

Our final evening will be spent in the vicinity of the Sound of Mull before returning to Oban for brunch on Monday 8 July.

Highlights: Viewing the windswept beauty, cliffs and arches on Handa – huge sea bird colonies – remote anchorages and islands and settlements – high probability of cetaceans and dolphins – Spectacular raptors, including Sea and Golden Eagles – coastal and sealoch breeders  such as Eider Ducks, Mergansers, Divers, Dippers, Grey Wagtails and Common Sandpipers – along with breeding Terns, Shearwaters and Skuas – sessile oakwoods specialties like the beautiful Redstart, Wood Warbler & Spotted Flycatcher – striking insect life with butterflies and dragonflies abundant – rich and astonishingly varied wildflowers
