Saloon tables set for lunch aboard Hjalmar Bjorge by Keith RogersFood is always a special occasion onboard and our talented and generous cooks and chefs frequently surprise our delighted guests with the quality of their offerings. We believe that good food forms an important part of your holiday experience and we work hard to exceed guests' expectations. If you’ve been reading the customer feedback at the bottom of the left hand navigation panels you’ll see much of it relates to the catering!

Homemade bread baked by Ylva aboard Hjalmar Bjorge by Nigel LynchStocks are freshly replenished prior to each cruise, using as much local produce as we can. We will happily cater for vegetarians, other special diets or anyone with food allergies or particular dislikes and will discuss your dietary requirements before you arrive.

Tea (ordinary, Earl Grey, herbal etc.), coffee and hot chocolate are available all day, every day from the self-service servery – just help yourself whenever you like and don't forget a biscuit, piece of fruit or bottle of complementary mineral water while you’re there. We have an onboard bar selling wine, beer, lager, cider and soft drinks so, if you don’t drink these, you don’t pay for them.

A typical day's menu will include breakfast (light or robust as you choose) followed by morning coffee (or tea) and biscuits. Then, depending on what we are doing and where we are, we normally serve a 2-course lunch which includes soup and freshly baked bread. Sometime during the afternoon we’ll have tea or coffee with fresh homemade cakes or biscuits and in the evening a candlelit 3-course dinner followed by cheese and biscuits and coffee and chocolates is served.

Nigel with his ipod shaped birthday cake by Graham Savage (the photo, not the cake)We love to help our guests celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversaries and other special occasions with a cake and a little party. Our booking form asks for these details so be sure to tell us if your chosen cruise dates coincide with a special day.

Check out Nigel, right, with his birthday cake in the shape of an ipod!
