Red deer stags

Synopsis: an unusual itinerary, involving sail and power, which aims to explore the little-known lochs of the mainland's west coast. A good time of year for cetaceans, stags, otters and we'll see raptors and some seabirds at sea. Daily walks amongst nature's end of summer / start of autumn changing beauty.

AumtumWatch (6 nights) cruising areaDestination: guests join yacht Zuza around 1530 on Saturday 22 September at Oban Yachts, Kerrera. Our departure shortly thereafter will see us on anchor for our first evening meal aboard.

The itinerary is dependent on weather, balancing shelter with sailing to our preferred destinations. From Oban we'll sail up the Sound of Mull into Loch Droma Buidhe (Loch Sunart). The following day, weather permitting, we round Ardnamurchan Point and sail up the Sound of Sleat to Loch Nevis and Inverie (home of the mainland's remotest hostelry). We intend to explore Loch Nevis (which is wonderful for otters) hopefully landing at Tarbert for a short walk to view the majestic and deep inland Loch Morar. Next to Loch Hourn to explore the picturesque narrows and to visit unusual islands with isolated settlements such as Eilean Rarsaidh and Skiary. Loch Hourn is extraordinary at this time of year with abundant otters and the noise of roaring stags echoing around the hillsides. Enjoy the last says of summer and the stunning scenery of autumn.

On the final day we return to Oban having brunch before your departure on Friday 28 September.
