Synopsis: a gentle cruise where we take advantage of the natural shelter of the islands. Walks planned daily. A great time of year for cetaceans plus eagles and some seabirds at sea. Very small possibility of seeing the Northern Lights.

Inner Hebridean Cetaceans and Sunsets cruising areaDestination: guests join motor vessel Hjalmar Bjorge at around 1600 on Monday 6 September in Oban. Our departure shortly thereafter will see us on anchor for our first evening meal aboard.

The itinerary is dependent on weather - balancing shelter with reaching our preferred destinations - but may include, for example, some of the following places: Mull, the Small Isles (Rum, Canna, Eigg and Muck), the west coast of Skye, the Treshnish Isles, Gometra, Iona, Coll and the Garvellachs, etc. Excellent time of year for cetaceans, plus eagles, a few seabirds and picturesque sunsets. We don't see the Northern Lights very often but when we have done so it has been from late August onwards.

On the final day we head back into Oban for your departure after brunch or lunch on Sunday 12 September.

Sightings and findings from previous similar cruises: adders - basking shark - black guillemot - bottlenose dolphins - buzzard - common dolphins - cormorant - fulmars - gannets - golden eagle - guillemots - kittiwakes - minke whales - Northern Lights - otters - oystercatchers - porpoise - razorbills - sea eagle - seals - stingray - storm petrels - sunfish - sunsets - swallow - terns - white-beaked dolphins - wild goats

Please Note: The above map indicates an area within which we are likely to travel. Weather and the interests and abilities of guests influence the skipper's final decision. Sightings and findings are examples from previous similar cruises; the list is neither exhaustive nor guaranteed.
